About the Camp

Located in Goshen, Virginia, United States, and built on Lake Lake Merriwether, Camp Olmsted is one of six scout camps in Goshen. Named after General George H. Olmsted, this camp is unique in a couple different ways. For one Olmsted is a dining hall camp, it is also the only camp with a Technology center and was the first camp on the lake to develop an older boys program called X-Pride. Olmsted also has a separate area for merit badges such as Music, Art, and Cinematography called Culturecraft. Olmsted is also Unique in that it has an Open Program, which means that the Scouts do not have to sign up for their meritbadges before they arrive at camp. They simply show up to class of the first day, give the instructor their blue card and enjoy their week at camp. The camp contains 20 camping sites, and one staff site. In addition, it is the only camp on the lake that offers over 60 merit badges; many of these not traditionally seen at a summer camp, such as Communications, Radio, and others in that sort of field. Olmsted is the largest camp in Goshen, not in amount of land, but number of scouts that attend and staff members.
